Dr. Zoe Hart is what one could describe as a woman with a plan. She knows exactly what she wants out of life, and she is determined to get everything she wants exactly the way she wants it. There is no question that she will accomplish what she sets out to do. Zoe's worst enemy is herself. She consistently gets in an own way, just by opening her mouth. She has good intentions but usually goes about things all wrong. She jumps to conclusions often without taking into account her surroundings. Her mistakes at the beginning of her time in Bluebell, show that she is a brilliant surgeon, but she has the bedside manner of rock. She is very straight forward and doomsday like, not putting her patients minds at ease at all. She is so focused on becoming a heart surgeon like her father. A Paradigm changing event happened in Zoe's life when she lost the cardio, fellowship . It made her reconsider her life and moved to Bellbell Alabama. She found out that the man that she thought was stalking her into being his partner was her father and had left her half his medical practice. It is one of several actually, having her heart broken by the doctor she was dating in her perfect life that wasn't so perfect after all. Zoe needed more people in her life that would challenge her. By being a heart surgeon, it leaves Zoe with the ability to be somewhat emotionally detached. It served her well in New York, where her profession is as cutthroat as they come. Bluebell is a purely southern antiquated town, where people exchange recipes and stories about their cats; it made her the butt of many people's jokes. Zoe has trouble dealing with emotions. She was an expert at burying them after all she had many years to perfect the art of keeping people at arms length. Zoe has mainly used alcohol, avoidance, and sex not to have to deal with the major issues in her life. She is a master of being able to talk her way out of any emotional situation. Zoe has an enormous fear of being abandoned, which is why she became a master at avoidance. Leave them behind before they can leave you behind is something that Zoe believes, and that drives her in the way that she interacts with people, both in her platonic and romantic lives. It can, however, be most notably seen in how she reacts to her parents. Zoe has always had a strained relationship with her mother, for reasons that were unknown to her. She just chalked it up to her mom wanting to live her life through Zoe and Zoe never being able to live up to expectations. She wouldn't learn until later that it was because her mother was lying about her paternity for her whole life. Zoe and her father had the most defining relationship of her life up till the time she moved to Bluebell. Zoe doesn't form emotional attachments quickly but somehow managed to meet and fall for George Tucker in a period of 20 minutes. Zoe's professional life in New York remains uncomplicated. Her life in Bluebell remains decidedly complicated. She managed to offend most of the town by just existing. The only two people in town that wanted her around with Lavon the town's Mayor and her landlord. Lavon became her best girlfriend, according to her, even though he was a man. She, unfortunately, offended most of the women in the gentile town. She needed a voice of reason, and a sounding board and Levon became that for her. They were best friends in the truest of the word. George Tucker was the second person, Zoe ever met in Bluebell Alabama, and she was instantly smitten with him. They have an on-again-off-again flirtation George often being the only person that believed and Zoe and what she was in Bluebell to do. The only thing she wanted to do was find a place to belong, and George helped her to do that. George called off his wedding to Lemon Breeland for her, but she had slept with Wade. Somehow their timing was just never right they always manage to complicate each other's lives, something that so he always regretted. George was the kind of man she should have chosen but not who she wanted. Zoe was always close to her father, in fact, he was the reason she went into medicine in the first place. They were as close as any father and daughter could get. That was until she fell off a swing when she was younger, and needed a blood transfusion. Ethan Hart learned then that he was not her father and started what Zoe began calling "the moment when my dad stopped loving me". That feeling plagued Zoe throughout her entire life and drove her to try and be a cut throat surgeon. She just wanted to be accepted by her father as both his daughter and as a surgeon. After years of trying working, she did finally find some level of acceptance from Ethan Hart. Zoe is a city girl, which is why she had an oil and water type of relationship with Wade Kinsella, country boy through and through. When Zoe moved to Bluebell, she tried to shed her predictableness, in favor of adventure and starting fresh. One of the first things she did upon arriving in town got drunk and made out with the first person that picks her up on the side of the road. She didn't know then that Wade Kinsella would become a sliver that just wouldn't go away. Zoe is the queen of denial, and the best way for her to deal with her obvious attraction to her neighbor was to pick fights with him, banter became their foreplay and they both reveled in it. Wade was much better at than Zoe and used it to push all the right buttons. Zoe flusters easily, but especially where Wade is concerned. Wade was the bad boy that Zoe never knew she needed. Zoe doesn't like to be challenged, and by his very existence Wade challenges her in every way. She finally gives in to their mutual attraction and starts a relationship with Wade only to have her heart broken when he cheated on her. Her avoidance comes into play once again when she runs back to New York instead of staying in Bluebell and dealing with Wade. Zoe Hart was known as a girly girl. There is not a tomboyish bone in her body. She is a fashionista, and it shows, always wearing the most stylish clothes. She is a brunette and takes excellent care of herself.
